Merry Christmas

The Star of Bethlehem

Christmas is the time of reflection and of thanksgiving. I thank you for your support of our projects concerning the needy in the Philippines, which is like a star for many to help light up their path to the future.

More than two thousand years ago, the three wise men, kings – also known as magi – followed a star shining above them. Without knowing where it will lead them they followed the star.

Where is the star of Bethlehem today? In the night sky I see the brightest star – called Sirius – and I imagine how it was for the three wise men. But where is the child today, which they found in the crib?

Would we have the courage to follow that star? And if, would we recognize the child in the crib? It must be a deep yearning which brings people on the path to search for their destiny. For those who find it, they might be simply happy.

Bethlehem is everywhere!

The star of Bethlehem lights also today. We just have to look very well. Deep inside ourselves, a star leads us. It is the star of our destiny – here and now.

What we’re looking for might not be far away but close to us. We can encounter it in many ways.

Perhaps it is a part of the message of Bethlehem, that we become like a star for others – to light them on their way and to accompany them. And as well the others are for us like the child in the crib.

The Bethlehem Mission Immensee (BMI) has chosen a star for its logo. This star may represent for the BMI colleagues, which they like to light the path for people or just like to be there for them as companions as well as we would do for the child in the crib.

Like the three wise men had on their way, so I wish you also a bright shining star in your life, which leads you to your own destiny and to the child in the crib as well.

Merry Christmas

and happy new year  2009!
